My Baby is getting so big

Holden turned 10 months old yesterday and he is almost not a baby anymore. It's bittersweet how fast they grow up. You are so excited to see all the new things they learn and can't wait for the next milestone but yet you want them to stay small. Holden took his first steps today. Derek was home watching him while I was out and I guess he took a couple of steps all on his own. He tried to get him to do it when I came home but he wouldn't do it. I am glad that Derek got to be the one to see it first since I am the one that usually witnesses everything first. He had been standing on his own for a little while so we knew it would be soon that he would brave walking on his own too. I noticed today that one of his top teeth is coming in too. He only had his two bottom teeth until now. It was really nice outside today so Tiana and I took the baby outside and filled up the baby pool for him to play in. It's nice to finally have some nice weather to go outside and play.

Day at the Park

I took Holden to the park for the first time and he loved it. Well I guess I should say he loved the swing. He laughed and laughed when he was being pushed in it. I wanted to bring the camera when we went since I wanted some pictures of his first time there but I looked everywhere and couldn't find it so I just went without it. We played there for a little bit and then came home when I then remembered where I put the camera so we had to go again and pretend that was the first time there. I'm sure he didn't mind. I got some pictures of Holden on the grass which he was not too sure about. He put his hands up in the air and wouldn't touch it at all. The first time I put him there he screamed.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers. Mother's Day was really good. I was pretty much trying to milk it for everything I could get. Derek made an appointment for us to get our family pictures done which is what I really wanted so that was great. The appointment is on Dereks next days off so I just need to go get my hair done before then and get the babies cut too. Later that night we had everyone over for dinner which was fun. Derek bbq some steaks for dinner and they tasted great. We put together a collage of family pictures for my mom and also got her a memory foam for her bed. My first Mother's Day was great and I'm looking forward to all the ones to come.

Vegas Vacation

So we went to Vegas on Monday and came back on Friday. We stayed at The Orleans which is just off the strip. We flew through Great Falls which is ok most of the time but on the way there I guess they weren't sure if the plane was the right weight or something like that. So we had to wait while they put more fuel on the plane so we ended up sitting there for an hour before we took off which normally wouldn't be a big deal but when you have a cranky baby that doesn't like to sit still it seems like forever. By the time we got to Vegas it was pretty late so we didn't really do a whole lot.

Holden loved the pool there. I thought he would since he loves playing in the water for his baths. I found a little floating puppy at Wal Mart before we left that was nice cuz it had a little canopy above it that shaded him from the sun. He loved sitting in it and then we didn't have to hold him the whole time at the pool. He would sit in there for over an hour just playing in the water. He could touch the bottom of the pool so he could kind of push himself around a little. The funniest was one day he was really tired and it was our last day so we had already checked out of the room. My dad held him until he fell asleep and then we took the canopy and made him a little bed with it and draped a towel over it to make a little tent so he would be out of the sun. He slept there for an hour but we unfortunately had to wake him up cuz we had to leave or else I think he would have slept for another hour. It was so cute.

So we managed to come home with more money than we left with which was great. I didn't gamble that much since I had to watch the baby most of the time but Derek would watch him sometimes so Kyla and I could go out for a bit. When I did gamble I managed to double my money and then quit. I was playing this table game that is like playing poker and I managed to hit quads and won $300. Kyla was playing the same game and she hit a Royal Flush and won $3000. The casino took $750 of it for taxes. She is always lucky when it comes to the casinos.

The reason we went down at that time was because Derek wanted to play in a world series of Poker event and they were in Vegas at this time. He just wanted to play on tournament and they are $500 to enter but he played this one tournament where if you win they will pay for you to go into the tournament. He and this other guy just split the first place and he managed to pretty much get in the tournament for $35 which is nice compared to $500. He was doing pretty good at the beginning and was leading his table for awhile but after awhile got a little card dead and was being blinded out. He ended up placing in the top 64. He was happy with his results and hopes later on in the future to play a few more tournaments.

All in all it was a great week. Nothing too exciting but the weather was nice and not too hot so the baby can be out enjoying the sun as well. Hopefully we will be going back again soon and I am sure we will since Vegas is pretty much our second home.

Isn't it supposed to be Spring??

This weekend we got a nice little spring storm and this is what it looks like outside on April 20th. We are going to Vegas tomorrow so that helps get me a little more excited since it's high 20's there all week. I just hope that some of it is gone by the time we get back on Friday. I am getting really sick of snow and want to be able to take Holden to the park and play outside. I hope that summer is coming soon.

Happy Anniversary!

So yesterday was mine and Derek's 2nd Anniversary! We didn't really get each other anything since we didn't really want to spend the money. We did go for a really nice dinner. Derek had to work so he left a little early so we could go into Lethbridge for dinner. There is not a whole here for nice restaurants. We dropped the baby off at Kyla's house for her to watch him and then went to Ric's Grill for some steak and seafood. Everything was really good.

Yesterday was also a big day since the baby had his first tooth starting to come in. I will check his gums every once in awhile to see if there are any bumps or anything. So I went to feel them and I could feel the top of a tooth already sticking out of his gums. I didn't even know that he was teething. He wasn't fussy or anything so that was nice. I hope he is that way with all of his other teeth. I kept trying to show Derek when he got home but Holden did not want to cooperate. He eventually got to see it later on that night after I think everyone else had seen it.

Easter

This is a little late since Easter was two weeks ago. I guess better late than never. For Easter we didn't really do a whole lot since Derek had to work the whole weekend. Holden is still too small to know what is going on anyways. Me and the baby went to my parents house for Dinner which was so good. My parents bought him a little truck that he can get pushed around on. He loves getting rides on it around the house. My grandma also got him a cute little stuffed bunny for him. It was pretty much a quiet holiday but was still nice to get together with all of the family for dinner.

First Haircut

Derek had his four days off so we went to Lethbridge to do some shopping and Derek needed to get his haircut. We decided to go see Tiffany (my cousin) since she is at school right now trying to become a hairdresser. She does a good job and it's cheap too which is a bonus. Since we were there we decided to give Holden a haircut too since his hair was getting too long and starting to hang over his ears. Derek had been saying for awhile that he wanted to give him a mohawk but I didn't think it would be a good idea but when we got there everyone convinced me otherwise. We just kept the top part long and trimmed his hair all the way around his head. It was a little difficult at first since everytime she put the clippers by his head he kept turning to look at them. We kept giving him things to keep him preoccupied and the cookie seemed to do the trick for the most part. Afterward she put some gel in his hair to make it stand up. It looked so cute. All the girls at the school were all over him. We went to Costco and ladies kept stopping us saying how cute his hair was. I guess Derek was right this time.

New Beginnings

So this is the first post on our blog so I should probably say what has been going on so far. Derek and I have been married for almost two years coming up in April and we have a cute little boy named Holden. We absolutely love him and watching all the new things that he is learning to do. He is 7 months old and is crawling up a storm. He has been crawling for the last month and has been pulling himself up on anything that is around being a couch, coffee table or a leg. He likes to pull himself up on the coffee table and then tries to climb up on it by putting his feet on the handles to the drawers on the bottom but thankfully hasn't quite figured it out yet. He is always on the move and doesn't like to sit still for too long. I'm afraid of what he is going to be like when he can start walking.

We currently live in Cardston and have been for the last 8 months. Derek works at the Shell Gas plant out by Waterton and works long hours during the day. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 8 months and enjoy every minute of it. I was working at the Bank of Montreal as a finance manager previously in downtown Calgary before we moved down here.

So that is the quick rundown of our lives so far and hope to have more soon.
